Drawing Christmas in November

Hakim is one of my naughtier students. With some personal focus this week, he managed to finish his calendar submission piece. He's pretty proud of it...so am I!

Teacher's Notes
After a two-weekend hiatus, today it was back to the familiar stuff. Hanafi did an amazing job on his Chinese fan - colouring and painting unsupervised! I was really surprised and pleased by the spur of independence. Unfortunately, no photos as he's giving it to his grandma for Raya. Three new kids - Viknes, Vasantha and Surria who mostly speak Tamil, came joined today. Looks like we may have some interesting times with these sweet kids. Next week, most of the children will be back to their hometown. Hopefully, I will get to spend a more focused session with those who are staying behind.

Teacher's notes
This week, the kids learnt about Pointillism and Mandalas. Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of pure color are applied in patterns to form an image. While, mandala is a Sanskrit word that means "circle" and often decorated with symmetrical patterns.

Dhanan made his second attempt on painting this week. When he finished, we compared it with the his painting last week. Noticeably, there were marked improvements and confidence in today's painting. Zul and Nasir tried out some chinese painting techniques from watching a YouTube shared with them. Good attempts!

Vemosyha showed confidence in her freehand drawing and colouring of her chinese fan. Nabila got her pontillism technique right!

Teacher's Notes
Adele has shown keen interest and tremendous progress in the past 2 weeks. While Jovan is very meticulous in his painting and is a good student who perseveres to learn to paint well. Zul and Nasir have been naturally talented and confident in their painting ability from the start. For Nasir, he was clever to explain the shadow of the cow, which wasn't in the original painting. Zul added his personal touches in the background. Nabila, Syikin and Aishah have their unique styles, creativity in colour and originality. The girls has shown much confidence in extracting the elements from original paintings and making them their own. I think once all of them learn the basic techniques and with more practice, they can gain the confidence to create their own beautiful artwork. More on the other kids next week.
